Cassettes consist of both field and commercial recordings. Field recordings contain oral narratives with a primary focus on epics about Samori Ture, oral histories about the founding of the town of Musadu and French efforts to colonize the Beyla Province. Secondary topics include folk rituals, personal histories, slavery, Islam, and warfare. The commercial recordings were purchased by or donated to Tim Geysbeek and contain local histories related to the above subject matter and also several Muslim sermons.
